Guitar Journey - Mid January 2026 update!

Hi to whoever gets the chance to read this and Happy New Year! šŸŽ†

My previous post was about my path to date.

Now I'm sharing new progress!

I've currently finished JustinGuitar's Beginner course - Grade 1. It has been really helpful as I was miserable with chords, but now I'm able to play a few songs! One of my grade-ending picks was Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. You can have a listen here! Yeah that's me playing over the original recording.

Also, as I'm more inclined to listen and play heavy metal, I've bought the Troy Stetina books that teach both Rhythm and Lead guitar from zero to professional. The first stop is Metal Rhythm Guitar Volume 1, and today I've finished Chapter 2, or 1/3rd of the book. I didn't learn that much but spent some time practicing and perfecting the riffs.

These books have one full song at the end of each chapter, so here are both of them. Note that I only recorded the Rhythm guitar, not the lead guitar doing the solos nor the drums. Some day I'll be able to play that kind of solos I hope!

Chapter 1 song

Chapter 2 song

Bonus! I've also learned that the trick for recording metal guitars is to record twice and pan a track to the left and the other one to the right. I've done that with the Chapter 2 song and woah! The difference is enormous!

You can listen to it and watch the difference (headphones recommended!) here:

See ya~
