First post! My guitar journey so far

So it all started in 2012 (whoa! 13 years ago!) when I discovered my preferred music genre: metal. To be fair, listening to music didn't appeal to me at all before that, even if I studied a bit piano when I was a kid.

I convinced my parents to buy me an electric guitar (Harley Benton S-620-TR in case you want) so I'd learn online for free. It was a nightmare. PSA: Buy a guitar tuner with your first guitar.

I had to forcefully learn how to use my parents' old PC as an amp to be able to tune my guitar. Then I started learning songs I loved.

Another nightmare: The songs I loved were freakin' hard.

Months later and I discovered more bands I like, luckily with easier songs. And I more or less learnt to play the rythmic part of the difficult ones (mostly power chords, didn't care about classic chords), so I had fun here and there. I used to jam with a buddy that was found to be a dick so we parted ways.

Fast forward to 2013 holidays and I bought a better guitar and I cannot recall how I got it for less than 400 EUR when its listing price was about 600, but it turned out to be awesome. My first guitar was too hard to play and very low quality.

This guitar (a Schecter Damien Elite Avenger) had the body shape of my dream guitar (Schecter Synyster Custom-S) and a beautiful metallic black color, but most importantly: it was a pleasure to play.

The next 10 years were about playing the guitar in an intermitent way, just trying songs instead of fully learning from zero, and having a great time playing with the Rocksmith game (a guitar hero-like with real guitars) and doing some low quality covers of easier songs I used to like (some of them I still do!).

So where am I today?

I decided to finally commit to learn guitar. So far so good, since the last month I only failed to practice a couple days, and some days I doubled the practice time. I feel motivated and I have a clear goal: learn good fundamentals, learn bit by bit and enjoy the process and the improvements. Also, I have another goal: Being able to perform Buried Alive from Avenged Sevenfold, as they're the band that inspired my to try guitar and it's one of my favourite songs by them. It's an awesome song, go give it a try!

Also the motivation to write here feeds my motivation to keep going and post some updates here.

Have a nice day :)
